The overthrown of Dr Kwame Nkrumah many years ago has affected the development of our dear country negatively because successive governments have failed to continue his progressive agenda. Dr Kwame Nkruma, being the first prime minister and subsequent president of the republic of Ghana presided over a lot of developments in the country.
His government tried to establish a socialist economy that would provide better life for the Ghanaian populace.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah's government established many public corporations to cater for the needs of the country especially industrial and agricultural needs.
Under Nkrumah's regime, more social services such as schools, roads, hospitals were established. His government made Ghana becoming the first country in Africa to provide free education and medical care for her people .
Kwame Nkrumah went further to construct more roads, establishment of two more Universities and the construction of an international airport in Accra. The Tema habour, Volta Dam, Tema Township and Kongo Anokye hospital in Kumasi are all part of his achievements.
It is indeed on record and a fact that no Ghanaian president comes close to his achievement for the country.
This is the reason why former President Late Prof John Evans Mills suggested that a holiday should be established on President Nkrumah's birthday to honour and celebrate him.
But almost 54 years after the overthrown of Nkrumah, we have failed as a country. We live in hunger and poverty and borrowing from the Western world is the master of the day. Factories built by Dr Nkrumah have all collapsed and Ghanaians are suffering. This is due to the Selfish Interest of successors of Dr Kwame Nkrumah. For how long will we continue to be in this hardship as a country.
Ghana will only work when we go back and copy the selfless nature of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, vote for visionary leaders and change our attitude as Ghanaians.
