Ghana to write 2020 WASSCE ahead of other WAEC countries. The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh hinted that the Ministry of Education is in some form of consultation with relevant stakeholders and should Ghana secure the green light and freedom from coronavirus ahead of other West African countries, Ghana may organize the 2020 WASSCE exams ahead of the four other countries (Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Liberia).
“If Ghana secures freedom from coronavirus and other West African Countries are not, we will proceed and conduct the exams. Officially, we are in talks with other appropriate stakeholders.”
The minister revealed this while speaking on GH ONE TV’s morning show on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
However, he stated that Schools will only resume if the COVID-19 pandemic is dealt with.
As to whether the “Ghana to write 2020 WASSCE ahead of other WAEC countries” ambition will materialize, only time will tell.
SUSPENSION OF THE CONDUCT OF THE WASSCE FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2020
The West African Examinations Council wishes to inform members of the public that it has put on hold the conduct of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
This is in line with the protocols put in place by governments of the WAEC member countries to prevent the spread of the virus.
In light of the above, the Timetable for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020 has been suspended until further notice.
A new timetable for the conduct of the examination will be designed and made available to all stakeholders when the health situation improves.
